The supplement is also named after the desired compound in this herb that achieves the fat-burning effects: forskolin (also called “coleonol”), a labdane diterpene unique to Indian Coleus only. Labdane diterpenes are found in many other plants, but what makes the ones from Indian Coleus so exciting is their unique, impressive effects: found in no other plant in the world. (1)

Routinely squeaking by on five hours or less per night increases visceral fat levels, according to a 2010 Wake Forest University study. What’s more, after analyzing 28 different studies, UK researchers found that people who slept 5.5 hours or less per night ate an extra 385 calories the day after compared to those who snoozed for at least 7 to 12 hours. On top of that, they preferred to munch on fatty foods full of empty calories, like chips.
If you’ve done even a little clicking around the wellness corner of the internet, you’ve likely encountered articles about turmeric and its awesomeness, but knowing how to actually fit it into your everyday life? Not always so obvious. While many studies focus on very concentrated preparations of curcumin in powder, tablet, or extract form intended for therapeutic dosing, eating turmeric as part of your day-to-day diet can be the best way to enjoy those benefits. Read on to learn more about how to use turmeric to boost your health and wellness.
Forskolin is also known to block Hedgehog – a protein crucially important in early development, as it determines the fate of all the organs in the newly formed embryo. In a grown organism Hedgehog can help cancer cells move to other locations and form metastases. By inhibiting hedgehog forskolin prevents the development of new cancer cells and tumor growth [R].
Forskolin was shown to elicit favorable changes in body composition by significantly decreasing body fat percentage (BF%) and fat mass (FM) as determined by DXA compared with the placebo group (p < or = 0.05). Additionally, forskolin administration resulted in a change in bone mass for the 12-week trial compared with the placebo group (p < or = 0.05). There was a trend toward a significant increase for lean body mass in the forskolin group compared with the placebo group (p = 0.097). Serum free testosterone levels were significantly increased in the forskolin group compared with the placebo group (p < or = 0.05). The actual change in serum total testosterone concentration was not significantly different among groups, but it increased 16.77 +/- 33.77% in the forskolin group compared with a decrease of 1.08 +/- 18.35% in the placebo group.
Because of the terrible and outdated advice dished out. There is so much maths, calories in v calories out and super hard workouts advice that a really simple process has become saturated with unproven advice. Most of it makes no sense or in the case of calorie reduction ‘seems right’’ but it doesn’t work! So to get rid of fat; it’s all down to understanding one thing.
There have been a few studies suggesting that Forskolin Extract can aid weight loss. But, more research is needed in order to confirm its validity. And, turmeric has been linked to targeting inflammation-induced obesity and metabolic diseases, but the turmeric ingredient in Turmeric Forskolin may be blended with other ingredients, binders or fillers that cause it to affect your body differently. This is what you should keep in mind if you move forward with Turmeric Forskolin. It has a blended formula, and the results could vary from person to person. And, the results could vary from the specific effects of raw, natural Turmeric and Forskolin.
Certainly, it doesn’t appear that our bodies are designed to function at their best for the around-the-clock food culture we’re living in. In my experience, it’s good practice to give your body a chance to digest before bedtime by finishing your last meal or snack a few hours before you turn in. If your system is busy digesting late at night, it can disrupt the body processes that happen as we sleep, which may cause hormone disturbances and other imbalances that promote overeating and weight gain. Since your body needs about 10-12 hours to recalibrate, allowing it the time it needs is a smart call.
After my fasted workout, I drink a protein shake with 1 tsp creatine per day plus 1 tbsp potato starch per day. I found that taking the creatine on an empty stomach led to loose stools. It absorbs better with protein. The creatine is generally recommended and has no downsides. The potato starch is not digestible… it feeds the bacteria in your gut and may result in some gas. But it has a dramatic effect on my fasting blood sugar… on many days, my fasting gluscose is down to 77 vs. 95 without the potato starch. Simply unbelievable. Mark Williamson first told me about this and I was pretty skeptical, but now I’m a believer.
Thanks for all the helpful information! I appreciate how you mention both sides of the story and provide lots of links to extra data about Forskolin. I tend to agree with Anonymous above, that Dr Oz isn't exactly the most trustworthy figure. But a supplement that could potentially help with both asthma and allergies (my two biggest problems!) is something I am definitely excited to try. Looking forward to seeing more studies!
Growing up, Joe was plagued with a myriad of health issues such as gut problems, autoimmune issues, chronic fatigue, brain fog, insomnia, and general inflammation. Both conventional and alternative doctors weren’t able to help him, so he decided to fix himself. With lots of health questions and few satisfying answers, Joe decided to read every research paper he could get his hands on and conduct thousands of experiments on his own body in order to fix his health issues. Joe started SelfHacked in late 2013 when he successfully fixed all of his issues, and now it gets millions of readers a month looking to educate themselves about how they can improve their health. Nowadays, forskolin is known for its purported benefit of promoting weight loss by increasing the cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) in your system. It is believed that increasing cAMP helps release fat from your cells to be used as energy for your body.4 Despite the advertisements, don’t let forskolin fool you, because the science cannot back it up.

This species and other related species were used in many traditional medical systems. Traditional medical uses include the treatment of digestive disorders (stomachache, gastric and intestinal spasm, nausea, as a purgative), skin (burns, wounds, insect bites, allergies), infections (eg, syphilis, ringworm), and other conditions, including neck stiffness, and rheumatism, and to induce menstruation and as an oral contraceptive. Forskolin has also been used to treat heart, blood, and circulation conditions, and cancers. In the 1970s, the plant's cardiovascular activity was investigated.
Upping Your Exercise Game – While Turmeric Forskolin claims that with their supplement you won’t have to exercise anymore, we think this may not be the case. Try upping your exercise game to help those pounds come off. Do you go to the gym or workout at all? If you don’t, start. Maybe increase the amount of days you go if you already have a workout routine. If you go twice a week now, try three or four. If you typically run on the treadmill for 20 minutes, up it to 30 or 45. You get the picture.
Why do I believe turmeric is arguably the most powerful medicinal compound in the world? Yes, it’s backed by over 10,000 peer-reviewed studies, but if you dig deeper, you’ll find that turmeric has been used in ancient medicine practices much further back than modern science records. The timeless principles of natural medicine practices in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurveda are much of what has led modern scientists to document the mechanisms of valuable spices and herbs like turmeric.
Turmeric is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches up to 1 m (3 ft 3 in) tall. Highly branched, yellow to orange, cylindrical, aromatic rhizomes are found. The leaves are alternate and arranged in two rows. They are divided into leaf sheath, petiole, and leaf blade. From the leaf sheaths, a false stem is formed. The petiole is 50 to 115 cm (20–45 in) long. The simple leaf blades are usually 76 to 115 cm (30–45 in) long and rarely up to 230 cm (91 in). They have a width of 38 to 45 cm (15–18 in) and are oblong to elliptic, narrowing at the tip.
I read one of the studies that you linked to and checked out a number of others briefly just to see what the scientific studies have to say. Normally, I would be really reticent to believe that any supplement could actually assist in losing weight. The thing that really shocked me was that the study I read WAS a double-blind test with a placebo, and it found that forskolin absolutely showed an increase in fat loss over those taking a placebo. Another awesome side effect that was carefully documented was an increase in lean body mass and bone density. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16129715
Make sure to program your cardio exercise in with your weight training the right way, though — a 2017 study found that performing cardio and weight training workouts on alternate days was far more effective for burning belly fat than stacking the workouts on top of each other in the same session. Put the two together, and watch that unhealthy midsection shrink.
Scientifically speaking, there are plenty of credible medical and governmental clinical studies out there that support using Forskolin extract to enhance your health both for weight loss and other reasons. With regards to weight loss, for instance, a study involving twenty-three overweight women who took 25mg of Forskolin (250 mg capsules of 10% standardized forskolin extract) twice a day for eight weeks found that the women lost a mean of ten pounds at the close of the trial period. Their percentage of body fat was reduced by nearly 8% as well. The scientists concluded that Forskolin may be especially helpful in weight maintenance, given that women also reported lesser intakes of carbohydrates, fat and energy in general during the study which may explain the weight loss statistics.
