Growing up, Joe was plagued with a myriad of health issues such as gut problems, autoimmune issues, chronic fatigue, brain fog, insomnia, and general inflammation. Both conventional and alternative doctors weren’t able to help him, so he decided to fix himself. With lots of health questions and few satisfying answers, Joe decided to read every research paper he could get his hands on and conduct thousands of experiments on his own body in order to fix his health issues. Joe started SelfHacked in late 2013 when he successfully fixed all of his issues, and now it gets millions of readers a month looking to educate themselves about how they can improve their health. Joe is now a thriving author, speaker, and serial entrepreneur, founding SelfDecode & LabTestAnalyzer.
Because of the terrible and outdated advice dished out. There is so much maths, calories in v calories out and super hard workouts advice that a really simple process has become saturated with unproven advice. Most of it makes no sense or in the case of calorie reduction ‘seems right’’ but it doesn’t work! So to get rid of fat; it’s all down to understanding one thing.
Tame your stress levels: I know it's easier said than done and I wince at even putting this on the list and making you feel like you're being lectured, but I've got to. There are a lot of things that we can't change in life, but we can adapt and handle them better. Carve out a little time for yourself in the day and try to fill it with something that you enjoy that you find relaxing. Yoga, stretching, writing, reading, meditating - whatever it is, try to treat yourself to at least a little something that settles your mind when you're feeling really stressed out. Stress can wreak havoc on health - not just on appearance or the storing of fat - and it should not be taken lightly.
Forskolin – Many reviews of this supplement show that users have lost a high percentage of body fat, and in just a short amount of time! One user claims to have lost 55 pounds in eight months, while another lost eight pounds in just three weeks. There’s no doubt that Forskolin can help you lose several pounds in just a few short weeks, and there appears to be added health benefits there to boot.
An  American phase 2 study reported in 2008. 25 patients had curcumin treatment and 21 had tumours that could be measured. In 2 patients their tumours shrank or remained stable. In some patients their levels of particular immune system chemicals that destroy cancer cells went up. But the researchers found that blood levels of curcumin were very low because it is not well absorbed from the gut. Scientists have since developed injectable, fat soluble forms of curcumin which may improve the results.
If you want to go to the max, you can think about minimizing total fructose consumption to <25g/day of added sugar; that’s the amount of added sugar in a single 8oz serving of Coke or fruit juice. Note: it is not so easy to detect fructose since “sugar” is used generically on food labeling. Sugar is a generic term on the food label. It is not what we call “sugar” which is technically called sucrose, a 50/50 mix of glucose/fructose. For example, the sugar is milk has no fructose, but it says “sugar” in the nutrition label. Table sugar is half glucose, half fructose, but it is also called “sugar” in the nutrition label. So best is to read more about this elsewhere as covering this is a topic in itself. Avoid sugar alcohols such as sorbitol, isomalt maltitol and mannitol since these break down to fructose. In general, “added sugar” is bad. Avoid all fruit juices like orange juice, Odwalla drinks, etc. Do yourself a favor and watch Lustig’s video on Fructose 2.0. It’s long, but it very important, he’s an entertaining speaker, and he’s right (e.g., see Peter Attia’s review of Lustig’s talk). Eating fructose in real foods such as fruit is fine since it has fiber which slows the rate of digestion so it hits the liver at a rate that the liver can process it properly.
Beans are an excellent source of slow-release carbohydrates, as well as a good source of protein and fiber, which slow the digestive process to help you stay fuller, longer. “Research finds that eating just three-quarters of a cup of beans a day for six weeks can help you lose close to six pounds. And if you’re trying to lower your cholesterol, it’s a double win as the soluble fiber in beans helps whisk cholesterol out of your body,” says Ansel. She also says you don’t necessarily need to cook dry beans from scratch. Canned beans are one of the most underrated convenience foods, so keep a rotation of all kinds - like black, pinto, chickpea and cannellini - in your pantry. Try adding beans to your soups and salads, add them minced to meat dishes, enjoy a bean dip like hummus, or toss them in a salad.
While it likely took more than a week to gain unwanted fat, most people wish they could lose it quicker than it came on. “When it comes to losing weight, simply cutting back on your portion sizes could be the most underrated way to drop pounds. However, if you’re already eating less (and exercising more) and are still stuck, there are little tricks of the trade that can help jumpstart your efforts,” Ansel says.
Stimulus (cue) control involves learning what social or environmental cues seem to encourage undesired eating, and then changing those cues. For example, you may learn from reflection or from self-monitoring records that you're more likely to overeat while watching television, or whenever treats are on display by the office coffee pot, or when around a certain friend. You might then try to change the situation, such as by separating the association of eating from the cue (don't eat while watching television), avoiding or eliminating the cue (leave the coffee room immediately after pouring coffee), or changing the circumstances surrounding the cue (plan to meet your friend in a nonfood setting). In general, visible and reachable food items are often cues for unplanned eating.

As you get older, your body changes how it gains and loses weight. Both men and women experience a declining metabolic rate, or the number of calories the body needs to function normally. On top of that, women have to deal with menopause. "If women gain weight after menopause, it's more likely to be in their bellies," says Michael Jensen, MD, professor of medicine in the Mayo Clinic's endocrinology division. In menopause, production of the hormones estrogen and progesterone slows down. Meanwhile, testosterone levels also start to drop, but at a slower rate. This shift in hormones causes women to hold onto weight in their bellies. The good news: you can fight this process. Read on.

Turmeric makes a poor fabric dye, as it is not very light fast, but is commonly used in Indian clothing, such as saris and Buddhist monks's robes.[6] Turmeric (coded as E100 when used as a food additive)[24] is used to protect food products from sunlight. The oleoresin is used for oil-containing products. A curcumin and polysorbate solution or curcumin powder dissolved in alcohol is used for water-containing products. Over-coloring, such as in pickles, relishes, and mustard, is sometimes used to compensate for fading.
Nowadays, forskolin is known for its purported benefit of promoting weight loss by increasing the cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) in your system. It is believed that increasing cAMP helps release fat from your cells to be used as energy for your body.4 Despite the advertisements, don’t let forskolin fool you, because the science cannot back it up.
Thanks for all the helpful information! I appreciate how you mention both sides of the story and provide lots of links to extra data about Forskolin. I tend to agree with Anonymous above, that Dr Oz isn't exactly the most trustworthy figure. But a supplement that could potentially help with both asthma and allergies (my two biggest problems!) is something I am definitely excited to try. Looking forward to seeing more studies!

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Early research suggests that curcumin, a chemical found in turmeric, might reduce some RA symptoms, including pain, morning stiffness, walking time, and joint swelling. Other research shows that taking a turmeric product (BCM-95, Arjuna Natural Extracts, India) twice daily reduces RA symptoms more than conventional medication.
Turmeric is a powerful anti-inflammatory herb that’s been used for centuries to treat a variety of ailments. This root, which is a cousin to ginger, is native to Southeast Asia and sometimes called "Indian Saffron" because of its beautiful golden color. Turmeric’s active compound, curcumin, has been extensively studied for its disease-fighting potential and preventive health benefits.
It is often confusing! Often we find that people who want to get into a better shape are often very confident in how to lose the extra pounds. Yet, despite of visiting the gym, sweating hard and controlling a strict diet, many of them can’t address the stomach. This is a solid reminder that many of the ideas the fitness industry preaches are plain and simple, wrong.
If you have been around for a while, you might not be too surprised to find out that mainstream programs overlook inconvenient yet important parts of the weight loss equation.  Not many in the industry like to tackle real problems such as restricted circulation (especially to areas where fat is stubborn, this is no coincidence) or the fact that you must take FFAs out of fat cells (via lipolysis) before attempting to oxidize them (burn fat).
For example, in both TCM and Ayurveda, turmeric is supposed to be consumed with beneficial fats (like coconut oil) and black pepper. Does that sound arbitrary to you? It’s not! Actually, scientists have confirmed that taking turmeric along with both healthy fats and black pepper (tested individually) greatly increases the absorption of turmeric (and subsequently, curcumin) in the body. Both of these processes make sense, as turmeric is fat-soluble and the piperine in black pepper stimulates digestive enzymes and reduces inflammation associated with the quick breakdown of turmeric in the body. To give you further context surrounding Forskolin and help you understand the possibilities that the supplement offers in weight loss, we’ve put together some reviews, both positive and negative, of Forskolin. In these reviews, you’ll discover what some of the most authoritative figures and websites in supplements and health have to say about Forskolin. Through these opinions, we hope you’ll get a better idea of what you can expect from the supplement and gain insight from other interpretations of the research surrounding Forskolin.
Before we jump into Turmeric Forskolin, let’s take a look at weight loss in general. Why is it so hard to lose weight? The modern diet traditions are not easy to follow. This is one reason weight loss is so hard. Eat less, they say. Cut out sugar, they say. Exercise more, they say. It is exhausting. The biggest thing to remember about losing weight is there is no quick fix. And, it’s about changing bad habits into good ones. By doing this you’re more likely to keep off the weight you lose, feel better and live a healthier lifestyle.

The most talked about natural weight loss duo is finally here! Two powerful fat burning plants have been combined to produce a instant fat burning solution the natural way. The first plant Turmeric of the ginger family has been proven to prevent fat from forming, increase thermogenesis and greatly speed up weight loss. The second plant of the mint family that grows in Southeast Asia and India, Forskolin is a revolutionary breakthrough that has the Media in a frenzy!

Social conditions such as poverty, social isolation and inability to get or prepare preferred foods can cause unintentional weight loss, and this may be particularly common in older people.[42] Nutrient intake can also be affected by culture, family and belief systems.[27] Ill-fitting dentures and other dental or oral health problems can also affect adequacy of nutrition.[27]

In Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, as a part of the Tamil–Telugu marriage ritual, dried turmeric tuber tied with string is used to create a Thali necklace, the equivalent of marriage rings in western cultures. In western and coastal India, during weddings of the Marathi and Konkani people, Kannada Brahmins turmeric tubers are tied with strings by the couple to their wrists during a ceremony, Kankanabandhana.[30]

An effective reward is something that is desirable, timely, and dependent on meeting your goal. The rewards you choose may be material (e.g., a movie or music CD, or a payment toward buying a more costly item) or an act of self-kindness (e.g., an afternoon off from work or just an hour of quiet time away from family). Frequent small rewards, earned for meeting smaller goals, are more effective than bigger rewards that require a long, difficult effort.
It's known that in about 10 to 15 percent of people with autoimmune hepatitis, the condition is triggered by drugs or supplements, the report said. In these cases, the condition is called drug-induced autoimmune hepatitis. It's unclear how drugs or supplements trigger drug-induced autoimmune hepatitis, but it's thought that in some cases, the breakdown of drugs may lead to the formation of molecules that trigger an immune reaction, according to the NIH.

Turmeric side effects: Health benefits and risks Curcumin, the active ingredient in turmeric, has potent biological properties. Research suggests that turmeric can reduce the risk of cancer, improve liver function, and ease inflammation and pain. However, large amounts may upset the stomach, thin the blood, and stimulate contractions. Learn more about turmeric here. Read now

A study that was published in the Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmacology describes how combining curcumin with prednisolone (a steroid) effectively reduces the side effects of this dangerous medication, so it may be beneficial about talking to your healthcare provider about alleviating certain medication side effects by adding turmeric to your diet. If you’ve done even a little clicking around the wellness corner of the internet, you’ve likely encountered articles about turmeric and its awesomeness, but knowing how to actually fit it into your everyday life? Not always so obvious. While many studies focus on very concentrated preparations of curcumin in powder, tablet, or extract form intended for therapeutic dosing, eating turmeric as part of your day-to-day diet can be the best way to enjoy those benefits. Read on to learn more about how to use turmeric to boost your health and wellness.

The 71-year-old woman in the report read a news story referencing a study on animals that said turmeric may help prevent stroke. She started taking the supplements along with 20 other medicines and supplements she was already taking. Eight months later, a blood test determined she had elevated levels of liver enzymes, which can indicate a liver problem.

Blood sugar maintenance. There’s one study that points to the possible use of Forskolin to control blood sugar levels. In the study, the supplement was administered for eight weeks and resulted in decreased fasting blood glucose levels. For anyone who has an understanding of the relationship between pre-diabetes, diabetes, and weight, this revelation may lead to another understanding of how Forskolin may help with weight loss. Many pre-diabetic patients struggle to lose weight due to insulin resistance. If Forskolin can help maintain normal blood sugar levels, individuals with insulin resistance may avoid sugar highs and crashes in a cycle that encourages more weight gain. Some supplements such as GOLO are based on this premise and have been used with great success. Forskolin may be another viable option for those on the path towards pre-diabetes to control blood sugar and lose weight.

Forskolin has multiple sites of action and should be used with caution. Forskolin derivatives have been developed for use in heart/blood vessel conditions. Quality clinical trials are lacking to support claims made of the weight loss properties of forskolin, and clinical studies conducted with oral and inhaled forskolin in patients with asthma are limited.

Even though you are eating well and exercising, you may reach a plateau where your weight stays the same. Plateaus are mainly due to decreased resting energy expenditure (REE). When you consume fewer calories, your REE decreases, thus your body's need for energy decreases. Keep exercising and eating well to help you get through periods with no weight loss. Sometimes a plateau is the body's way of saying that you may not need to lose more weight. If you are meant to lose more weight, eventually weight loss will come as your body's metabolism catches up with your new lifestyle.

Isn’t it exciting to hear about a weight loss supplement that can simply melt away fat and leave muscle mass unaffected? The answer is, of course, “yes.” However, your follow-up question should then be, “Does it really work?” And the answer to that question is rarely as positive as the initial assertions may sound. This is no different in the case of forskolin, a compound found in a plant in the mint family.

It claims it’s blended formula can accomplish these things because of two main, active ingredients, Turmeric And Forskolin. Which makes sense, as its name is Turmeric Forskolin. But, can these two ingredients really do all of these things? The verdict is still up in the air. Turmeric Forskolin is such a new product that there is no substantial evidence to back up its claims. However, there has been a lot of buzz around the ingredient Forskolin Extract, and it’s effects on weight loss.

I’m getting really tired of these weight-loss products, ever since I wrote about Akavar 20/50 “Eat all you want and still lose weight!” back in January 2008. I get a strong stink of déjà vu, because they all fit the same pattern: a small grain of plausibility, inadequate research, exaggerated claims, and commercial exploitation. There are always testimonials from people who lost weight, probably because their will to believe in the product encouraged them to try harder to eat less and exercise. But enthusiasms and fads don’t last. A year later, the same people are likely to be on a new bandwagon for a different product. Dr. Oz will never lack for new ideas to bolster his ratings. Enthusiasm for easy solutions and for the next new hope will never flag as long as humans remain human. I guess I’ll just have to keep doing the Sisyphus thing and hope that I can at least help a few people learn to be more skeptical and to question what the evidence really shows.
Drink lots of water: Many of us are chronically dehydrated. The amount of water each of us needs to drink for optimal health varies widely - even on an individual, daily basis - but a general rule of thumb is that your urine should be very light yellow or almost clear. Many things (vitamins, medication, health conditions, etc) can effect this so it's always best to talk to your doctor about what might work best for your specific health.
Turmeric has been used medicinally over the centuries in different parts of the world. In the traditional Ayurvedic medical system, turmeric is a well-recognized treatment for numerous respiratory conditions (eg, asthma, bronchial spasms, allergies), liver disorders, anorexia, rheumatism, diabetic wounds, cough, and sinus infections. In the Indian subcontinent, turmeric is medicinally valued for wound healing. In traditional Chinese medicine, turmeric is used to treat conditions that cause abdominal pain. Tumeric can reduce inflammation and was used to treat sprains and swelling in ancient Hindu medicine.
