Because curcumin crosses the blood-brain barrier, research has suggested the brain can also benefit from its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant benefits and stave off conditions like Alzheimer’s. Use turmeric in an all-purpose spice blend for fish or to toss with olive oil and toast up with walnuts, another food shown to protect brain function as we age.
My only worry is that it raises free testosterone. Many women today are having reproductive issues (mainly PCOS, which already raises free testosterone levels and causes a world of problems). I wonder if this would raise the number of PCOS cases or cause more issues in women with hormonal imbalances. I really look forward to seeing more studies in this because it is so difficult to lose weight with these issues.
I read one of the studies that you linked to and checked out a number of others briefly just to see what the scientific studies have to say. Normally, I would be really reticent to believe that any supplement could actually assist in losing weight. The thing that really shocked me was that the study I read WAS a double-blind test with a placebo, and it found that forskolin absolutely showed an increase in fat loss over those taking a placebo. Another awesome side effect that was carefully documented was an increase in lean body mass and bone density. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16129715
There’s a reason people are obsessed with apple cider vinegar for weight loss. Some research shows that it may have very modest weight loss benefits. For instance, in one 2009 study, researchers had 144 obese adults drink a placebo or 1 to 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar (ACV) daily for 3 months. They found that people who downed 2 tablespoons lost nearly 4 pounds, while those who sipped on 1 tablespoon dropped 2.5 pounds. The placebo drinkers? They actually experienced a small weight gain.

The Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database rates forskolin as “possibly effective” as an inhaled powder for asthma, and as an intravenous medication for idiopathic congestive cardiomyopathy. It also mentions that it may decrease intraocular pressure but has not been tested in patients with glaucoma. It doesn’t even mention the possibility of using it for weight loss. The safety rating is “possibly safe,” and it lists potential interactions with prescription drugs and with other herbs and supplements. They say it may increase the risk of bleeding and should be discontinued at least 2 weeks before surgery.
Unintentional weight loss may result from loss of body fats, loss of body fluids, muscle atrophy, or even a combination of these. It is generally regarded as a medical problem when at least 10% of a person's body weight has been lost in six months or 5% in the last month. Another criterion used for assessing weight that is too low is the body mass index (BMI). However, even lesser amounts of weight loss can be a cause for serious concern in a frail elderly person.

In another study, 30 overweight and obese men were split into two groups. The first 15 took 250 milligrams of 10 percent forskolin twice a day, while the remaining 15 were given the same dosage, but with a placebo. After 12 weeks, researchers noted that the forskolin group had reduced body fat, but their total body weight did not change.6 Essentially, they were still obese, which can be very harmful to your health if this condition is prolonged.

Nowadays, forskolin is known for its purported benefit of promoting weight loss by increasing the cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) in your system. It is believed that increasing cAMP helps release fat from your cells to be used as energy for your body.4 Despite the advertisements, don’t let forskolin fool you, because the science cannot back it up.

Turmeric makes a poor fabric dye, as it is not very light fast, but is commonly used in Indian clothing, such as saris and Buddhist monks's robes. Turmeric (coded as E100 when used as a food additive) is used to protect food products from sunlight. The oleoresin is used for oil-containing products. A curcumin and polysorbate solution or curcumin powder dissolved in alcohol is used for water-containing products. Over-coloring, such as in pickles, relishes, and mustard, is sometimes used to compensate for fading.
While it might sound counterintuitive to eat something before you head out to a restaurant or party, showing up famished to the event will likely make it all the harder to stick to your weight loss goals. Eating something small (about 100 calories) with fiber (two to four grams) is a great way to readjust your appetite so you can show up and mingle a bit before diving into the cheese dip. Choose a whole food to take the edge off, like an apple or handful of nuts. For example, 30 pistachios are just 100 calories and offer two grams of fiber, along with protein and healthy fats, to truly take the edge off your appetite while providing a satisfying pre-party crunch. Enjoy your mini snack with a tall glass of water before the festivities to reduce your chances of post-party weight gain.
Turmeric is a popular spice similar to ginger, known for its bright yellow color and use in curry powders and mustards. Also called "Indian saffron," the plant grows across India, other areas of Asia and Central America. Turmeric flavors a range of dishes, is a vital component of certain religious rituals and has been used for medicinal purposes for nearly 4,000 years.
Itching (pruritus). Research suggests that taking turmeric by mouth three times daily for 8 weeks reduces itching in people with long-term kidney disease. Also, early research suggests that taking a specific combination product (C3 Complex, Sami Labs LTD) containing curcumin plus black pepper or long pepper daily for 4 weeks reduces itching severity and improves quality of life in people with chronic itching caused by mustard gas.

Turmeric is used for arthritis, heartburn (dyspepsia), joint pain, stomach pain, Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, bypass surgery, hemorrhage, diarrhea, intestinal gas, stomach bloating, loss of appetite, jaundice, liver problems, Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection, stomach ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), gallbladder disorders, high cholesterol, a skin condition called lichen planus, skin inflammation from radiation treatment, and fatigue.
Growing evidence suggests that turmeric may help protect against Alzheimer’s disease. The main constituent of turmeric, curcumin, appears to block the progression of Alzheimer’s disease in mice. Studies of Indian populations, whose diet is rich in turmeric, show that rates of Alzheimer’s disease are very low in these groups. More research is needed to confirm or disprove the effectiveness of Turmeric for Alzheimer’s disease prevention.
Some research suggests that forskolin may aid in weight loss and muscle building. In one very small study, overweight and obese men took 250 milligrams of a 10% forskolin extract twice a day. After 12 weeks, they lost more body fat and had a greater increase in testosterone levels compared to similar men taking a placebo. But more research must be done to confirm these results and establish its safety.
